Are you Good with You? – From the Heart of a Queen

Do you ever truly stop and evaluate your life? Not monetarily, but how you live day by day.

Not by Facebook or Instagram standards either. That’s the complete world of fakeness!

What is the inner you? If there were no social media would you be ok with yourself?! How you treat people, do you do things just to make a “post”. Do you think the world is truly that interested in you? I have had to ask myself these questions also. If we really knew how little people think about us once they scroll past that picture that took us 20 shots and 10 filters to get, we may not waste so much time doing it.

I just want to be the best ME I can be without comparing myself to others or trying to live up to the wonderful world of photoshop (not that there is anything wrong with that 😂) and superficial people that are only there when you are doing something for them.

This is not a blog aimed at anyone. I don’t really even know why I created this article. I was deleting pictures off my phone and was thinking how most of them don’t even portray the true me. And that was sad! Of course, I want to look my best, I love my makeup to be on point and my hair to be perfection, just like most girls. And being in the beauty industry for over 27 years definitely has its pressures. But where are the silly pictures without filters, the nature pictures, because I love that kind of stuff. I don’t think it’s wrong to take those serious, “sexy” pictures, there just needs to be a BALANCE.  My own pictures showed me I had lost that.

I know I’m not the only person that has struggled with my self image, which is why I feel we do some of these things.  With talking one on one with so many people over the years, you realize everyone struggles with something different but equally important. (And yes, one day there will be a book SERIES on all of the “therapy” sessions.  Names changed of course, to protect the “innocent”. lol).

I guess my challenge to you is, pause in life and analyze yourself.  Are you doing things for yourself or for what you think other people want you to do or be? When you do something for someone, are you doing it to get something in return, for recognition or just because…? One thing I learned early in life, when you do something for someone, you don’t have to tell every one else of your good “deed”.  Do it, move on, never hold it over someone’s head, and don’t tell other people.  (I could write a complete book on this alone lol)

So are you good with you? Are you happy with who you truly are, do you even know who you really are? If not, maybe it’s time to figure it out. Without comparing yourself to any one. Just figure out YOU!

We are all uniquely and wonderfully made. Celebrate YOU, do things just because it’s the right thing to do, ENJOY moments, make memories, become the absolute best version of YOU!

  • NEVER drink and drive. It is just not worth it. Even if you live, you might kill someone, and you’ll have to live with that for the rest of your life. Pick a designated driver, use a taxi or public transportation, or just check in to a hotel and sleep it off. Do not get behind the wheel. If you do, you’re putting people you don’t know and their families in danger by driving a 4000 pound vehicle while impaired.

Essential Oils and Your Hair

Essential oils have been prized by humanity for thousands of years; the wise men even gifted baby Jesus with frankincense and myrrh. You may already love essential oils, and use them in various ways in your daily life, but have your tried them to support your healthy hair?

Essential Oil Basics for Your Hair

Healthy living, following a good hair care routine, and having a fabulous hair stylist, all are key to great hair. But, what else could add to maintaining that beautiful head of hair? Chances are, you have already purchased a hair care product that has been scented or infused with essential oils, since the benefits of oils are widely recognized. By finding or making your own products, you can pinpoint your hair’s needs, from shampoos, conditioners, styling products and even hair perfumes!

One simple way essential oils can be incorporated and it’s totally DIY, is by simply adding a few drops to a gentle scalp massage. If you are concerned with the strength of the oil, adding a few drops to a your carrier oil of choice, like coconut, jojoba, avocado or almond oil. These carrier oils can be found at local health or grocery stores. A third way is to add few drops of your choice essential oil may also be added as you shampoo; simply place a few drops in your hand along with your shampoo. Many of the oils can be used, with little time involved, by incorporating them into your daily beauty regime. Oils can be chosen based on aromatic preference, the beneficial qualities they offer your hair, or even better, both!

The Oils and their Beneficial Properties

Does your fragile hair need strengthening? Maybe you have oily or dry hair seeking balance? Or possibly you’d enjoy using oils to nourish your hair?  Essential oils are used to optimize hair health.

Fragile hair : Receive support from clary sage, lavender, thyme, sandalwood, wintergreen  and roman chamomile.

Oily hair: Some essential oils for balancing oily hair are basil, cypress, thyme, lemon, bergamot, tea tree, and rosemary.

Hair Growth: Essential oils for hair growth are thyme, lavender,

rosemary, ylang ylang, cedarwood, clary sage,

wintergreen, ginger, lemon and grapefruit essential oils.

According to the article by Dr. Axe, entitled, Rosemary Oil Uses and Benefits,

one of the top 4 benefits of Rosemary oil is it’s ability to support hair health.

The article goes on to say, “When applied over the scalp, rosemary essential

oil helps stimulate hair growth. Many people also claim that it can prevent

baldness, slows graying, and can be used to treat dandruff and dry scalp.”

Want to thicken your hair, try putting 5 drops of rosemary oil on scalp

and massage in after showers, as a part of your hair care routine.

Dry Hair/Dandruff: Geranium, lavender and sandalwood essential oils help with dry hair or dandruff.

All hair types: Rosemary or clary sage essential oils benefit all hair types.

Practice Yoga to Benefit Your Hair?

What are the characteristics of gorgeous hair? Gorgeous hair is shiny, strong, easy to manage, and compliments all of your other beautiful qualities, including your confidence! The first step to getting that gorgeous hair is to know that your hair is supported from inside and outside of the body!

You may already love yoga for the strength, balance, and flexibility it provides, but what if I told you it could also help you have healthier hair too? Yoga, with it’s focus on breathing, increasing oxygen flow, and inverting the body, can improve and support a healthy scalp and hair growth. If you haven’t yet tried yoga, or your mat is tucked into the back of your closet, I encourage you to wait no longer to give it a try! Let’s take a look at how regular exercise, like yoga, can maximize you and your lovely locks!

breathe yoga article Queen C Hair

Yoga and your hair:

Yoga is well known for its many health benefits, like encouraging balanced breathing, increasing blood flow, lowering stress, relieving fatigue, and assisting in balanced sleep; all of which benefit healthy hair. From attending a group yoga class to practicing postures in your own home, the benefits can easily be yours. A simple 15 to 20 minute session of stretching and breathing is all it takes.

According to the article, Yoga for Hair Growth and to Stop Hair Loss, “All forward bending yoga pos- tures enhance blood circulation in the head or the crown region, which in turn nourishes the roots of the hair. As a result, one can observe the changes in the tresses over a period of time. You have to practice them with consistence though, if you are to get results.” So, finding some time to incorporate a self-care routine, like yoga poses, can do much for you, your mind, body, and that includes your hair!

When looking at a wholistic healthy lifestyle, by eating a healthy diet, the practice of yoga aids in the digestion of those nutrient-packed foods. Many yoga postures help to aid in the function of your diges- tive system. Proper digestion, in turn supports our bodies in accessing the nutrients in foods, and those nutrients work to support the health of our hair!

Where to Begin?

As with many physical activities, the practice of yoga, reduces our stress and anxiety, supporting the health of our hair. Minimal time, like something as short as a 15 to 20 minutes practice can bring a bet- ter perspective or outlook on life, making you more relaxed and better prepared for what the future holds, making for a healthier you! The simplicity of the breath to calm the nervous system justifies a simple 10 to 15 minute yoga practice.

What poses are most beneficial for hair? Some suggested postures associated with improving hair are standing foward fold, rabbit pose, camel pose, downward facing dog, cobra pose and shoulder stand. All of these postures should be done with care, and possibly under the guidance of a certified instructor. To see the postures performed check out 6 Poses for Hair Growth by LexiYoga.

Hair For A Cause

WSA ANNOUNCEMENT
Hair For a Cause – Queen C Hair and Women Survivors Alliance

Cancer is recognized worldwide to be a major health problem affecting millions of people each year. More than 1 million people in the United States alone get cancer each year, and as of 2009, a total of 562,340 deaths from cancer were projected to occur in the United States yearly.

We all know someone that is suffering or that has suffered with the horrible disease of cancer, and wish we could do something to help. The time is now for us at Queen C Hair. We are proud to announce our sponsorship of Women Survivors Alliance.

Every time a product is purchased from the AIRess Collection, Queen C Hair will give a percentage to the Women Survivors Alliance.

Women Survivors Alliance is a non-profit organization that helps women that have suffered from cancer, because cancer doesn’t end when treatment does.

WSA’s vision is to transform survivorship from a mood into a movement by empowering, educating, and connecting women whose lives have been touched by cancer. The Women Survivors Alliance has undertaken a national call to action to address the burdens of survivorship issues on women, their families, and by extension, society as a whole.

This July in Nashville, TN the WSA will be hosting SURVIVORville.  This event is where women can learn to navigate the muddy waters of survivorship. It’s where they acquire the tools to help them re-build their lives after a cancer diagnosis. To know more about this event, click here.

To learn more about the Women Survivors Alliance, please click here.

Thank you for your support of Queen C Hair and Women Survivors Alliance.  We are looking forward to this adventure together to support women past their diagnosis.

Tips & Remedies for Hair Problems

Many hair related problems like hair loss, rough and dull hair, split ends and breakage,  arise due to lack of proper hair care.  But there are also illnesses and treatments that no product or treatment can prevent hair loss during or after. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help prevent breakage, dry and dull hair, and also as if you have had hair loss due to illness, there are ways to help your hair grow back.

  •  One of the first steps in hair-care is your diet and the two most important things in your diet are iron and protein. Hair cells are the fastest growing cells in the body, they are also the first ones to be affected if you don’t eat right.  Hair is not required for our survival so with deficiencies, hair is the first to suffer.    Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet of proper food and consume excess water to prevent hair breakage. Lean proteins, fruits, raw vegetables, whole grains, legumes, omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon or flaxseed oil and dairy products will keep hair healthy.  Click Here to view our previous article on Vitamins and Nutrients with recipes.

  • Drink Green tea.   Drink at least 24 oz. of green tea every day to help your scalp grow hair back. Green tea lowers the levels of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, in your body.  DHT is one on the main culprits to hair loss, so drinking tea can help your hair grow back in a natural way.  Scientists have found that green tea contains the antioxidant “EGCG” (or epigallocatechin gallate) which has the ability to stimulate hair growth. In addition, by applying green tea directly on the scalp, it results in a significant elongation of the hair follicle.
The anti-inflammatory properties in green tea could help stop hair loss and even promote the growth of new hair. That means that you can use it to cleanse your scalp and fight scalp infections that may weaken your hair roots. Remember a healthy scalp makes it more possible for hair to grow.

Try this scalp treatment:  Wash hair as normal, and then message COOL, freshly                      brewed green tea into your scalp. Leave on for 10 minutes,  rinse with cool water. Repeat 2 to 3 times a week for a couple of months. This rinse will stimulate your hair follicles and help prevent scalp problems like dandruff.  Added bonus: Sprinkle the spent green tea leaves them around your plants and watch them bloom.

  • Drink plenty of water. If you are dehydrated, you don’t have enough water in your body to keep it moisturized. If your body is not moisturized properly, it cannot get the nutrients it needs to grow hair back on your scalp. MayoClinic.com says you should drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water every day.

Hate water?  Slice or cube up some fresh organic fruit and drop it into your water for a little flavor and color. Berries, mango, watermelon, pineapple, kiwi and orange are just a few of the colorful fruits which make great additions to a glass of cool water.

There are also things you can do daily to improve the condition of your hair.

  • Brush wet hair with extreme care.   Hair is fragile and prone to breakage when wet. Use a detangler brush and brush the hair starting at the ends and work your way up.  Brush your hair as gently as possible.  Click Here to purchase the Queen C Detangler Brush

  • Trim your hair every 6 to 8 weeks to get rid of split ends. Cut about 1/4 of an inch of your hair to avoid the split ends from moving up the hair shaft and eventually snapping completely off.

  • Don’t shampoo your hair everyday, every two to three days is best. If you shampoo your hair every day, you’re removing the sebum, then the oil glands compensate by producing more oil.  Apply conditioner on the ends, trying to avoid the scalp.  Rinse the conditioner with cold water, this helps  to close the cuticle and seal in moisture from the conditioner — which helps your hair look shiny and healthy.

  • Use a Deep conditioner twice a month.  Even though you condition your hair after you shampoo, a deep conditioner does just that, it penetrates deep into the hair. We love the Beauty & Pin-ups Fearless Treatment Masque and we are also big fans of DIY Hair Masques.  Click Here to view DIY Hair Masque recipes.

  • Don’t over use hot appliances. Also, invest in good tools, even though they are pricier, in the long run they last longer and are definitely better on your hair  . Make sure they offer different heat settings and, in the case of flat irons, display the temperature.  Hair dryers should have a diffuser to help distribute heat more evenly.  When possible, it is best to let your hair dry naturally.  Blow-drying can cause roughness, dryness, and loss of color.   When using a straightening iron, curling iron, etc.  make sure your hair is 100% dry.  Putting these hot tools on even damp hair will cause extreme damage.

If you have fine and/or thin hair by nature or by illness, you can add some volume to your hair.

  • If you need a little uplifting help, message a small amount of mousse into your scalp when it’s still damp and let air dry or blow dry after.

  • Dry your roots first, lifting your hair up or turning your head upside down.  But turn your head back up before completely dry.  If not, this will emphasize a bad growth pattern.

  • Dry shampoo can be your best friend! It gives you a nice lift at the roots. My favorite Dry Shampoo is Stay Dirty by Beauty & Pin-Ups. This stuff is great for adding volume to your roots on day dirty hair, or even right after a blow-dry and style

  • .Clip it in.  If you never thought you could wear hair extensions, think again.   Queen C Hair Extensions offers an Exclusive clip in extension collection called the AIRess Collection.  These exclusive clip ins are super lightweight and made especially for those with fine and/or thin hair.  Made to lay flat against the head, so they are hidden easily.  The clips are  silicone infused with a silicone bar to prevent slipping.   They’re affordable and available at SURVIVORville 2017 and also online at http://www.QueenCHair.com.

Queen C Hair is a proud sponsor of Women Survivors Alliance.  A percentage of proceeds from sells of the AIRess Collection and AIRess Clip & Tie Ponytail Collection are given to WSA.

We are honored to be participating in the makeovers at SURVIVORville 2017.

12 Cures for Lifeless Hair
